| | |
| Description: A beautiful Stole, Shawl, Scarf or Wrap, with Sitara Work. Resembling a large comma or twisted teardrop, the kidney-shaped paisley is one of the most recognized patterns in the world. The lacy pattern is Persian (Iranian) in origin, but its western name derives from the town of Paisley, in central Scotland. In Indian culture, the paisley was originally a way for village people to communicate that it was harvest time. They would put ink on the side of their fist and stamp it places so that people would know it was time for harvest. In Modern World: One of the towns where the shawls were produced was Paisley, near Glasgow, whose name became synonymous with both the shawls and the teardrop or pinecone motif, which decorated them. Paisley pattern is a droplet shaped vegetable motif, also called buta, similar to half of the Yin Yang symbol, the Indian bodhi tree leaf, or the mango tree. |
